Rico Rodriguez is just living on a wingsuit and a prayer.
There’s not much that can be said about the latest trailer for Just Cause 3, Square Enix’s bonkers open world shooter where you can drive, fly, skydive and grapple on to anything and everything on screen. Oh, and all modes of transportation are required to be accompanied by explosions. Not that you’d notice, since cool guys never look at explosions.
Just Cause 3 explodes onto Windows PC, Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One this holiday season with Avalanche Games returning for development.
Cult action favorite Just Cause will be getting its entry into its open world grappling hook adventure in 2015. Avalanche Studios will launch Just Cause 3 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC and will feature a Mediterranean setting for players to tether jets to trees. The news comes out as Game Informer revealed the news break as their upcoming cover story.
A very niche title in last generation’s consoles, Just Cause started off as a casual open world action game that starred international spy Rico Rodriguez as he parachuted and grappling hooked across Caribbean jungles. While certainly not a flow, Just Cause gained a ton of traction thanks to the silliness of its fanbase on YouTube, especially once players really started messing with the game’s ridiculous physics engine. Coupled with several sales on Steam that have brought Just Cause 2 to an extremely low buy-in price of under $3, it was the perfect game for curious gamers to just mess around in.
It is a fanbase that has continued to steadily grow, even as so much as to have a user-created mod for the game that allows for thousands of players multiplayer to just do random Just Cause level mischief. It is a mod that encapsulates the insanity that Just Cause had created a following for.
Square Enix will publish the game with Avalange Studios’ teams in New York and Sweden leading development.
