Gran Turismo 6 Launches Today

Gran Turismo 6

In case you forgot, Gran Turismo 6 launches today for the PlayStation 3.

I’ve been pretty hard on Gran Turismo lately, mostly due to the combination of Gran Turismo 5’s disappointing showing and my ever adoration of Forza Motorsport. But with early rumblings about Forza Motorsport 5 being less than positive, I’m willing to take a let Gran Turismo 6 impress me.

I Can Absolutely Relate to this Gran Turismo 6 Commercial

How do you get a game release week all to yourself? Launch in December on an outgoing console. Just days after launching the PlayStation 4 in European territories, Sony reminds the world that the PS3 is still a viable gaming machine with the AAA release of Gran Turismo 6. GT6 will launch worldwide on December 5 and 6, beginning with Sony’s home territory of Japan.

GT6 has kind of snuck under the radar, especially given the disappointing reception of Gran Turismo 5. Honestly, I have little expectations for GT6 because of how meh I felt about the last game. Sure the cars look pretty but the game has become a very sterile experience. Hopefully they’ll be able to channel some of the excitement this guy feels in his Honda Fit.

Gran Turismo 7 in 2014?

Gran Turismo 6

Sony Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi believes that Gran Turismo 7 could be just around the corner, despite the fact that Gran Turismo 6 won’t be released until next week.

“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7,” Yamauchi told the UK’s Top Gear. “Best case scenario? Next year.”

For a series known for taking its sweet time due to Yamauchi’s obsessively detail oriented direction, I sincerely doubt we’ll even get a sniff of GT7 by next year. GT5 was largely viewed as a disappointment, even by stalwart regulars of the series. I personally see the game as miles behind Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport, which has always felt vibrant and engaging where Gran Turismo, while certainly a collector’s dream, is an incredibly sterile experience.

But if Polyphony can get GT7 onto the PS4 by next year, it would be an impressive achievement. The PS4 could certainly use an exclusive racer, with DriveClub delayed until spring, Sony must be pushing Polyphony to release something in the immediate future. Sony has long held Gran Turismo as one of its key franchises dating back to the original PlayStation. With the tenuous life Gran Turismo had on the PS3 (GT HD Concept, GT Prologue, GT5, GT5 XL, GT6), a more focused effort is certainly in order for the franchise’s success on the PS4.

Top Ten Tuesday E3 2013 Edition – Biggest News to Come Out of the Pre-Show Presentations

E3 officially begins today, as the show will open to denizens of reporters (not named Theory Flaw) ready for terrible food, hourly deadlines and product demos galore. But while many games will get their moment of glory in the coming days, the major players have already opened their hands for heads-up poker. Franchise reboots, new exclusives, new consoles and product strategy highlight this list of the biggest news to come out of the pre-show presentations.

10. Crimson Dragon

I had to try my hardest not to write Dragoon because this is clearly designed in the vein of the stellar dragon riding series Panzer Dragoon. Even bringing back Panzer Dragoon series director Yukio Futatsugi this Kinect based Xbox One game features massive bosses and gorgeous dragon-borne aerial combat. While I fear it may play a little too closely to Child of Eden, this is clearly a bold move by Microsoft.

Video Games x Fashion

Let’s create some mashup words. Fashionista + Gamer = Gashonista? Fashmer? Gameonista? I kinda like the last one.

Several notable game series are releasing fashion lines and to be honest, gaming fashion can be done correctly if it continues to follow this trend. Now, while I respect the work and dedication that many Cosplayers give to their craft, in the end, it is more about accurately portraying the look and persona of a character, than fashioning an outfit based on that. What I’m talking about, is the transcendence of gaming to inspire fashion that can be brought, tastefully, to daily life.
