Keeping true to their tradition of molding their handheld systems in as many colors as possible, Nintendo has unveiled a pair of limited edition 3DS LLs for the Japanese market. The shiny turquoise and orange shelled systems feature a very slick looking black base in contrast to colored face and shoulder buttons. Nintendo also remained predictable by not revealing any details for markets beyond Japan, particularly for North American iterations of the 3DS XL.
Despite being treated to occasional themed 3DS handhelds (Pikachu, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pokemon X & Y), the North American market has rarely gotten the same color treatments as Nintendo’s homebase. Couple this with the thus-far unconfirmed North American release of the Triforce themed 3DS XL to be bundled with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. The gold and black handheld has already been confirmed for European and Japanese markets, but Nintendo has been hesitant to confirm a North American release, despite a Black Friday ad leak from GameStop.
I was ready to plop down my $220 or whatever it may have taken to get the Link Between Worlds 3DS XL but I can’t stop staring at that orange and black system. It just sings to me.
